The technique of moltiplication of out plans

The propagation technique that Paulownia Italia uses for the reproduction of Paulownia is the one called micropropagation (or "agamic", or in VITRO).

This type of multiplication begins with the harvesting of the meristem (bud) of a plant and is grown under sterile conditions in an artificial environment, where light, temperature and growing medium are predetermined according to the needs of the plant.

The main advantages of this type of propagation are:

  1. possibility to select the starting material, with the choice of "super elite" plants

  2. DNA analysis of the plant, in order to verify exactly the species and variety that will be multiplied

  3. the genetic heritage of the plants produced will be the same as the original plant, therefore we will find all the characteristics of the original plant on all the plants obtained (a characteristic impossible to find in plants multiplied by seed)

  4. use of "sanitized" material, with plants that will grow in the acclimatization phase in sterile substrates and that will be transferred to the greenhouse while maintaining the maximum health conditions of the environments, so that at the time of transplanting in the field, we will have perfectly healthy plants .

  5. the production in the laboratory is not conditioned by seasonality and therefore both production and marketing can take place throughout the year

In propagation by seed, on the contrary, (called generative or "gamic" propagation), each new individual (the seedling) comes from a fertilization process, with the consequence that each seed will therefore have a unique and different genome from the others, which will involve a genetic diversity and an inhomogeneity of the offspring between them.

In practice, each new individual will have its own different characteristics and characteristics and will differ from the others.

In a commercial plantation, it will be essential to use plants with identical characteristics and growth uniformity, both because in the growth phase the more developed plants could compromise the correct growth of the less developed ones, and because it will be essential to arrive at the moment of cutting the trunks with trees of the same size.

Paulownia Italy does not reproduce any plant from seed and our plants are multiplied IN VITRO; moreover, our laboratories adopt all the best techniques and use the best materials to obtain "super elite" plants, practices that not all laboratories adopt.
