Your turnkey plantation

As already seen in another section of the site, over the last 20 years, the cultivation of paulownia in Italy and Europe has seen the repetition of errors that have often compromised the results in the plantations, and consequently the large-scale spread of this incredible plant.

In addition to the use of inadequate genetic material, as well as the choice of unsuitable land, the most obvious and most common mistake was the choice of the planting layout.

In fact, in the vast majority of plantations, due to the too small planting sixth (almost always 4x4, with about 600 plants per hectare), after the first 4-5 years the level of growth of the trees slows down drastically, and often prevents the plant to reach the minimum diameter to make the timber commercially palatable.

The reduced planting layout also prevents the investor from adequately using the spaces within the row, which in any case cover the greater surface of the planted land.

In order to overcome the 2 problems seen above, and to guarantee the investor in achieving adequate levels of plant growth, Paulownia Italy has considered that the best solution is to propose planting distances with greater distances, which allow the investor also the possibility of cultivating an intrafila crop.

The wider spaces, in fact, for the first 4-5 years will allow the cultivation of many crops (for example wheat, corn, soybeans, alfalfa or other multi-year meadows, vegetables, aromatic or medicinal herbs, etc.), taking advantage of the wide light and adequate spaces between the rows.

This option, in addition to ensuring the adequate and rapid growth of the trees until they are cut, will also offer the investor the following additional advantages:

  • Possibility of securing an additional source of income through the intrafila crop starting from year 1, without having to wait several years until the first cut

  • Possibility of collecting PAC contributions or other regional contributions , linked precisely to the cultivation of the same intrafila crop

  • Possibility to economize and amortize the multi-year investment costs of the plantation (above all, but not only, the irrigation system)

  • By taking advantage of the irrigation system installed for paulownia, the investor will also have the possibility both to grow crops that usually require irrigation, and to increase the yields of crops that traditionally do not irrigate to avoid facing the costs of ' irrigation system

Aware of the fact that the aforementioned scheme can become difficult to implement for landowners and investors who do not operate directly in the agricultural sector, Paulownia Italy has consequently organized itself to offer all those who request it, a series of turnkey services , which we can summarize below:

  • Pre-planting consultancy - our company verifies that the land and planting area are adequate for the cultivation of paulownia, and draws up a detailed business plan including all the costs that the investor will have to face

  • Realization of all the necessary workings both before planting and during planting ; through collaboration agreements with various affiliated companies, we will in fact be able to offer any necessary turnkey processing, provided by companies with proven experience and professionalism

  • Supply and installation of the irrigation system, where not present

  • Supply of the best paulownia clones on the market , entirely produced in Italy

  • Post planting consultancy

  • Cultural services and processing for the entire life of the plantation, always making use of the affiliated companies

  • Consulting, services and cultivation processes for intra-row crops

  • Assistance in finding buyers for the intrafila crop

  • Tree cutting service when the necessary diameter is reached; to this end, Paulownia Italy has entered into an agreement with a company that will cut the trees without charging the related costs, retaining the branches and compensating their value with the cost of the service

  • Assistance in finding buyers for timber; to this end, Paulownia Italy already has general agreements for the sale of paulownia timber, and therefore promotes the sale of plantation timber in the interest of investors

  • From the first year of flowering, Paulownia Italy will put their trusted beekeepers in contact with the owner of the plantation, for the production of honey
